Dr. Alan Bernstein, President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research
(CIHR), joined by the Honourable Michael Wilson, Special Advisor to the
Health Minister on Mental Health in the Federal Government Workplace
announced a $3.2 million major health research initiative aimed at improving
mental health in the workplace.
In conjunction with this, support was provided to hold regular
conferences to sustain this research agenda. The CIHR has dedicated significant
funds to research in workplace mental health over the coming years.
As part of this, they are also supporting annual communication and
information exchange congresses across the country.
The first took
place in Montreal in June 2005. The purpose of the conference is to
promote research initiatives and exemplary practices in the area of workplace
mental health and addiction. The conference will emphasize key theme
areas as identified by the CIHR.
These are:
Workplace Prevention & Promotion
Disability Management / Return-to-Work
Diagnosis and Treatment
Stigma/Discrimination
Workplace Mental Health & Addiction Policies
