Themes

In April 2005, the Honourable Ujjal Dosanjh, Minister of Health, and Dr. Alan Bernstein, President of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), joined by the Honourable Michael Wilson, Special Advisor to the Health Minister on Mental Health in the Federal Government Workplace announced a $3.2 million major health research initiative aimed at improving mental health in the workplace.

In conjunction with this, support was provided to hold regular conferences to sustain this research agenda. The CIHR has dedicated significant funds to research in workplace mental health over the coming years. As part of this, they are also supporting annual communication and information exchange congresses across the country.

The first took place in Montreal in June 2005. The purpose of the conference is to promote research initiatives and exemplary practices in the area of workplace mental health and addiction. The conference will emphasize key theme areas as identified by the CIHR.
